Il film "il grande sonno", con Humphrey Bogart e Lauren Bacall, tratto dal romanzo di Raymond Chandler, è del 1946. Humphrey Bogart è l'attore che 'identifichiamo' con il personaggio dell'investigatore Philip Marlowe, anche se altri hanno interpretato questa parte, ad esempio Robert Mitchum e Elliott Gould. Il remake del film, del 1978 e con Robert Mitchum, è ambientato in Inghilterra.
